The Privacy Team at OpenAI is dedicated to developing a secure and trustworthy environment for all OpenAI products and systems that handle user data. They work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to equip products with necessary tools that ensure compliance with the highest standards of data privacy and legal regulations. Role Overview

We are seeking a Software Engineer specialized in building data pipelines and collaborating closely with Legal department members. This position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about the nexus of systems engineering, privacy, and legal adherence. Your responsibilities will include designing, architecting, and coding backend infrastructure responsible for managing some of OpenAI's most sensitive data.

This role is located in Dublin, Ireland, where a hybrid work model is followed, requiring three days in the office weekly. Relocation support is provided for new hires.

Key Responsibilities

Architect, develop, and sustain backend systems and services supporting privacy and data compliance functionalities within API and consumer applications.
Collaborate with legal advisers and engineering teams to handle court orders and other legal procedures while maintaining strict adherence to data privacy and legal mandates.
Pinpoint automation opportunities and create tools facilitating task automation related to customer data management for various teams.
Formulate and enforce data management policies and procedures in line with legal and ethical standards to maintain data integrity and confidentiality.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Proven experience in constructing data pipelines tailored for legal processes and investigative operations.
Ability to translate legal requirements into effective technical solutions and clearly communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Accountable for problem-solving from inception to resolution, with willingness to acquire any requisite knowledge to achieve objectives.
Skilled in developing tools that enhance personal and team workflows, especially when existing solutions are inadequate.
Strong commitment to user experience, creating products that address customer needs while safeguarding privacy.
Background in security investigations or experience collaborating with trust and safety, legal, and engineering teams is advantageous.
