Job description

Overview

We seek a Site Reliability Engineer to manage and enhance the health and performance of our critical trading platforms. These platforms operate across Windows and Linux systems, including a distributed environment based on Service Fabric, real-time news infrastructures, and an extensive Python production setup spanning multiple regions and stages: development, integration, and production.

This role involves hands-on engineering situated at the intersection of development and infrastructure. Our team prioritizes reliability engineering principles such as automation-first methodologies, monitoring defined as code, self-healing systems, and shared, production-grade tooling. Collaboration is key, working closely with developers, production, and infrastructure engineers in Dublin, as well as global platform engineering teams, focusing on leveraging and contributing to communal platforms rather than creating isolated solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily operations of production systems including deployments, platform management, capacity planning, certificate handling, and environment health checks.
  • Quickly diagnose and resolve incidents, performing thorough root cause analysis to prevent recurrence.
  • Implement automation for all team operations, transforming manual tasks and runbooks into automated workflows and addressing recurring inefficiencies as defects to be fixed.
  • Oversee monitoring and alerting platforms using tools such as Checkmk, Elasticsearch/Kibana, Grafana, and Prometheus, converting configurations to code and refining alerts to ensure relevance and actionability.
  • Lead and maintain safe production releases through CI/CD pipelines managed in GitLab and deployment orchestration via Octopus Deploy.
  • Develop and standardize team tooling with robust continuous integration, thorough testing, and comprehensive documentation, contributing improvements to global platform products.
  • Serve as a liaison between development and infrastructure teams, translating technical needs and constraints across domains to build maintainable tooling for infrastructure operations.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in site reliability, DevOps, platform, or production engineering roles supporting critical business systems.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation technologies such as Python, PowerShell, and Bash.
  • Comfortable working within both Windows and Linux server environments.
  • Willingness to work in rotating early/late weekday shifts, including occasional weekend responsibilities and participation in on-call rotations.
  • Hands-on expertise with CI/CD tools like GitLab and deployment orchestrators such as Octopus Deploy.
  • Experience with configuration management and automation frameworks, for example Ansible.
  • Strong background in building, tuning, and managing monitoring and alerting systems (Checkmk, Elasticsearch/Kibana, Grafana, Prometheus).
  • Excellent troubleshooting capabilities with a disciplined approach to pursue root causes and implement permanent fixes.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to clearly explain complex technical concepts to developers and cross-functional teams.
  • Understanding and practical application of security frameworks including role-based access control (RBAC) and certificate management.
  • Functional knowledge of infrastructure components such as compute, networking, storage, identity systems, and their interaction with software.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
