Role Overview
The Site Automation Manager will lead the Automation and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) team within the Engineering department in Cork. Reporting directly to the Site Engineering Manager, this role focuses on optimizing manufacturing system efficiency by applying cutting-edge automation technologies while fostering a culture of operational excellence and employee development. Strategic leadership will enable the achievement of top equipment uptime, safety, and business value, supporting digital transformation and growth of technical talent.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure maximal availability and optimal performance of automation and MES solutions through proactive and predictive maintenance, reducing equipment downtime.
- Manage the design, execution, and full lifecycle of automation and MES projects to guarantee efficient and cost-effective manufacturing aligned with corporate priorities.
- Lead initiatives for digital transformation and transition to paperless manufacturing by utilizing advanced technical expertise.
- Guide and mentor a high-performing team, including conducting performance reviews and setting clear objectives to foster professional development.
- Create a collaborative, inclusive environment emphasizing learning, responsibility, and knowledge sharing.
- Promote continuous improvement by championing process enhancements and embedding best practices in automation.
- Recognize and encourage innovation while supporting change management efforts as technologies and business demands evolve.
- Develop and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with cross-functional stakeholders to align automation strategies with business goals.
- Maintain exemplary communication standards, customer focus, and stakeholder engagement both internally and externally.
- Ensure strict adherence to current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), data integrity and security, as well as Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) regulations.
- Cultivate an EHS&E culture, uphold ISO and corporate standards, and consistently demonstrate a 'Right First Time' approach.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree (Level 8) in Automation, Electronic Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 10 years of technical experience within the pharmaceutical sector concentrating on automation and MES systems.
- Deep knowledge of pharmaceutical equipment, with preference for solid dosage or sterile manufacturing experience.
- A minimum of 5 years managing projects and people, showcasing a strong record in talent development and goal achievement.
- Inspirational leadership qualities coupled with proactive change management skills and commitment to continuous enhancement.
- Excellent decision-making, communication, and leadership capabilities.
- Demonstrated customer-centric approach and aptitude for collaborative teamwork.
- Fluent proficiency in written and spoken English.
