Position Overview
The Shift Lead plays a crucial leadership role in retail operations, stepping in to open and close the store in the absence of management. This involves handling all systems start-ups, cash management, and ensuring both the sales floor and stockroom are prepared for the business day. The role also includes opening the store's back door for deliveries and managing cash tasks such as product returns, voided orders, and customer refunds.
Customer Experience
- Greet customers and patients, offering assistance with products and services.
- Resolve customer inquiries and concerns to ensure satisfaction.
- Lead by example in delivering excellent customer service practices, including greeting, eye contact, and courtesy.
- Coach team members on Walgreens’ customer service traits like proactive help and meeting customer needs thoroughly.
Operational Responsibilities
- Hold store keys for opening and closing without management when necessary.
- Guide team members in warehouse and vendor ordering tasks, including backdoor access for deliveries.
- Manage all sales transactions on assigned cash registers, maintaining records of errors, price checks, modifications, and voids.
- Assist management in reviewing order exceptions and handling reverse logistics such as returns and empty packaging.
- Support managers with merchandising efforts including display setups, promotional and seasonal fixtures, and resets.
- Maintain accurate inventory counts and ensure on-hand quantities across departments and storage areas are precise.
- Help enforce the Outdate program with the team to maintain product freshness.
- Manage basic pricing within departments, update daily prices, and ensure correct signage complies with pricing accuracy and regulatory requirements.
- Support bookkeeping tasks like cash reports, ledger maintenance, and bill payments when requested.
- Contribute to keeping the store clean, orderly, and in good repair, arranging for maintenance if necessary.
- Follow procedures for separating and placing food items, ensuring proper stock rotation using first-in, first-out practices.
- Demonstrate proficiency with store equipment and systems.
- Provide assistance at the pharmacy window when required.
- Ensure adherence to laws governing regulated products such as alcohol and tobacco.
- Conduct bag checks on team members before they leave the store premises.
- Abide by company policies and foster respectful workplace relationships.
- Carry out special assignments and other duties as assigned.
Training and Development
- Participate in training sessions and complete Personal Performance Learning (PPL) activities as directed by management.
Communication
- Act as a communication bridge between management and associates by relaying tasks during manager absences.
- Report any disciplinary matters or customer complaints to management promptly.
Additional Information
- This position requires previous leadership experience of at least one year in a supervisory or retail key holder capacity.
- Fluency in English (reading, writing, and speaking) is mandatory except in Puerto Rico.
- Knowledge of inventory control is preferred.
- Applicants with arrest or conviction records will be considered fairly.
- Obtaining and maintaining required PTCB certification or pharmacy licensure per state regulations is expected.
