Job description

Position Overview

The Service Crew Trainer at Barrick Mining Corporation is charged with creating, delivering, and assessing comprehensive training programs specifically designed for underground service crew personnel. This position emphasizes building workforce skills that enhance safety, regulatory compliance, and adherence to operational standards within the mining sector.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on practical training focused on underground service crew tasks including support installation, ventilation systems, water and air pumping lines, cable bolt installation, grouting, tensioning, and vent fan installation across various power systems (55kw to 220kw).
  • Conduct formal competency assessments using validated tools and maintain detailed training documentation.
  • Coach employees in safe work habits, hazard recognition, proper equipment use, and adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Detect training needs and competency gaps, subsequently developing targeted plans to bolster skills.
  • Create, review, and update training materials, presentations, SOPs, and assessment documentation ensuring alignment with site standards, OEM guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
  • Continuously refine training programs to reflect evolving operational demands and best industry practices.
  • Embed a robust safety culture by integrating critical risk controls and safety leadership throughout all training activities.
  • Participate in safety audits, investigate incidents, and support corrective actions to enhance safety compliance.
  • Collaborate closely with mine leadership, planning, and training teams to align training with operational goals and production priorities.
  • Monitor workforce performance, offering constructive feedback and coaching to both employees and supervisors.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 7 to 10 years of experience in underground mining operations, ideally related to service crew or corresponding roles.
  • In-depth knowledge of underground service installations, including ventilation, water and compressed air systems, pumping infrastructure, utilities, ground support installation, and movement of critical underground equipment such as refuge chambers and Flygt pumps.
  • Preferably holds recognized Trainer and Assessor certifications (such as Train-the-Trainer or TAE).
  • Strong grasp of mining safety management systems, rapid development safety practices, risk management, and operational standards in underground environments.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven track record in coaching, mentoring, and competency evaluation.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous supervisory or Leading Hand role experience within underground mining operations.
  • Current certifications in First Aid, Emergency Response Team (ERT), or Mine Rescue operations.
