About the Role

The company is looking for a senior consultant with experience in local government operations and procurement to join its strategic advisory team. The role involves shaping practical, outcome-focused solutions for New Zealand local government clients, with support across procurement planning and delivery for both operational service contracts and capital works programmes.

You will collaborate with consultants and leaders across the wider business. Assignments are typically delivered by teams, may be short-term or long-term, and can involve time spent onsite with clients, in the office, and from home on some days.

About You

The ideal candidate has a strong grasp of how local councils operate and how service programmes are delivered. You should understand multiple procurement methods, including their advantages and risks, and be able to apply that knowledge in a practical advisory environment.

Experience in transport, property, or community facilities would be especially useful, along with hands-on insight into how councils plan, contract for, and manage outcomes.

You will need to show initiative, handle several deadlines at once, and maintain a strong track record of delivery. The role suits someone who can move between different projects and adapt quickly, even where the work falls outside their usual specialism.

Sound judgment, strategic and critical thinking, and the ability to solve problems quickly are essential. You should be able to create efficient, value-adding solutions, contribute strong internal relationships, and manage client relationships proactively.

Requirements

• A relevant degree and at least 7 years of related experience.
• Background in procuring operational service contracts or capital works contracts, including planning, market engagement, tendering, evaluation, negotiation, and contract award.
• Knowledge of local government operations, including governance, funding limits, and stakeholder expectations.
• Exposure to transport, property, or community facilities is preferred.
• Flexibility to work on a variety of projects and services beyond a core specialist area.
• Ability to prepare and present clear, accurate, and engaging reports tailored to different audiences.
• Capability to review complex information and data and turn it into practical recommendations.
• Experience managing projects from planning and content creation through to time, budget, and resource control.
• Consulting experience is an advantage, including proposal support and business development contribution.
