Overview
This role centers on implementing and managing safety initiatives to reduce workplace injuries and illnesses, with emphasis on carrying out safety training and safety audits, including during 2nd and 3rd shifts. The position also involves ensuring strict compliance with all applicable safety, health, and environmental laws and regulations and assisting with environmental tasks as assigned.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local safety, health, and environmental standards.
- Perform environmental, health, and safety audits regularly, including both formal audits involving management and informal daily/weekly plant walkthroughs.
- Promptly investigate and document incidents; perform data analysis, root cause identification, and hazard evaluations; coordinate corrective measures.
- Create and deliver safety training sessions, including annual mandatory compliance, onboarding, and forklift operation training.
- Support the safety and health strategy by leading safety committee meetings, engaging in safety-focused groups, and distributing weekly safety topics.
- Participate in toolbox talks as requested.
- Assist with environmental monitoring activities such as noise and air quality sampling.
- Help foster a positive safety culture by supporting safety engagement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Minimum of three years’ experience in industrial safety; OSHA 30-hour certification preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of safety regulations, including OSHA, NFPA, and ANSI standards.
- Strong communication skills with ability to work effectively both independently and in team settings.
- Experience developing and maintaining manuals and training materials aimed at effective safety compliance and education.
- Proficient computer skills, including creating presentations, documents, spreadsheets, and safety data reports.
- Ability to think independently, manage projects, and make swift decisions.
- Willingness to work varying shifts and be available for emergency response 24/7.
Physical Requirements
Tasks commonly require sitting, speaking, and hearing. Occasional walking and manual handling of tools or controls, reaching, and lifting items up to 25 pounds are expected. Visual acuity including close focus adjustments is necessary. Reasonable accommodations are available for those with disabilities.
