Job Overview

Join our multidisciplinary team dedicated to supporting the identification, assessment, and management of patients who are acutely unwell or at risk of clinical decline. In this fast-moving environment, you will respond promptly to medical emergencies throughout the hospital, providing timely interventions that enhance patient safety and treatment outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver expert clinical support for patients experiencing or at risk of life-threatening deterioration or cardiac arrest.
• React swiftly to medical emergencies, providing assessment, intervention, and ongoing care.
• Contribute to the development, implementation, and review of protocols and pathways concerning deteriorating patients and resuscitation procedures.
• Champion best practices in recognizing and managing patient deterioration by educating, supporting, and collaborating with ward teams.

About You

• Motivated and confident healthcare practitioner with substantial experience in acute care settings managing critically ill or deteriorating patients.
• Demonstrated expertise in emergency management and resuscitation care.
• Strong clinical judgement capable of maintaining composure and decisiveness under pressure.
• Experience in contributing to clinical guideline development and quality improvement related to emergency care and patient deterioration.

Role Specifics and Working Pattern

This clinical and educational role supports daily critical care outreach under Band 7 leadership. It requires flexibility, including working evenings, nights, and weekends, within the Rapid Response Team to assess and manage deteriorating patients within the trust.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor of Science in a relevant discipline.
• Post-registration qualification in critical or acute care.
• Intermediate Life Support (ILS) provider certification required; ILS instructor or progression towards it preferred.
• Teaching, assessing, or mentorship qualification.
• Registration with a relevant healthcare professional regulatory body (NMC or HCPC).
• Experience managing deteriorating patients, including assessing, planning, and implementing care with minimal supervision.
• Ability to conduct post-incident reviews with supervision to promote best evidence-based practice.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

• Advanced Life Support (ALS) provider.
• Paediatric Immediate Life Support (PILS) provider.
• Experience working at the interface between hospital and pre-hospital environments.
• Physical assessment training or willingness to undertake such courses.
