Position Overview

The Restorative Practices (RP) Coach role is dedicated to enhancing the skills of students and staff in repairing relationships and fostering a positive community climate within the school. This position operates within Chapel Hill High School, supporting the implementation of equity-focused classroom strategies, Restorative Practices, Social Emotional Learning (SEL) competencies, and Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) as integral parts of the Multi-Tier System of Supports (MTSS) for behavioral interventions.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead and expand the use of restorative practices school-wide to improve relationships and strengthen community bonds, tracking staff trained, restorative sessions held, and behavioral incident rates.
  • Implement and support MTSS Tier I behavioral interventions, including equity-centered strategies, SEL, and PBIS usage, monitoring improvements in behavioral data and staff proficiency.
  • Reduce out-of-school suspensions by providing behavioral and academic interventions in reset/restoration areas within the school, aiming for lower suspension rates and better academic outcomes for participating students.
  • Directly assist students requiring more intensive MTSS Tier II and III behavioral support, tracking individual progress and successful reintegration to Tier I supports.
  • Coordinate instruction and behavior management in reset/restoration spaces, collaborate with teachers on referred students, and provide necessary tutorial support.
  • Help students reflect on behaviors and develop strategies to prevent future incidents.
  • Advocate and assist in implementation of best practices in equity-centered instruction, restorative methods, SEL, and PBIS.
  • Consult with principals and staff regarding behavioral expectations and student needs.
  • Engage families through conferences to discuss student progress and behavioral issues.
  • Participate in professional development activities to maintain and enhance competencies.
  • Maintain accurate records compliant with legal and policy standards.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or GED; some college coursework in education, psychology, or related fields preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build collaborative relationships across the school community, including staff, parents, and partners.
  • Understanding of youth development and experience working with non-motivated or at-risk students.
  • Effective organizational skills to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication abilities across oral presentations, written, interpersonal listening, and negotiation.
  • Reliability in attendance, punctuality, following instructions, and accepting feedback.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, educational databases, student information systems, and electronic communications.

Physical and Work Requirements

  • Must be able to perform essential job duties safely in compliance with ADA, FMLA, and other regulations.
  • Regular, punctual attendance is required.
  • Ability to lift and carry loads up to 50 pounds.
  • Clear verbal communication skills, including telephone usage.

This position follows the classified salary schedule, grade 104, and operates under a non-exempt FLSA status for a 10-month work period.
