Role Overview

We are seeking a full-time Research Scientist in Materials Science to join our team on-site in Skokie, IL. The successful candidate will lead experimental efforts on nanoscale materials, thin films, and patterned substrates using TERA-print tools. Responsibilities include designing experiments, optimizing processes, analyzing the relationship between structure and properties through sophisticated microscopy and spectroscopy techniques, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to translate scientific findings into improved products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct experimental synthesis and characterization of transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) thin films over large areas.
  • Assess and interpret experimental data to evaluate product quality.
  • Collaborate with scientists and engineers from diverse disciplines such as chemistry, materials science, and physics on a variety of application areas.
  • Engage in all stages of application development from concept validation to optimization and final implementation.
  • Participate in a learning culture by exchanging knowledge with colleagues beyond your immediate expertise.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent fields.
  • Minimum of one year professional experience in chemical or materials discovery sectors preferred.
  • Proficiency with thin film synthesis and characterization techniques such as SEM, TEM, XRD, XPS, AFM, Raman spectroscopy, especially related to TMDs or comparable materials.
  • Additional desirable skills: LabVIEW and Python programming, photolithography, chemical vapor deposition (CVD), atomic layer deposition (ALD), physical vapor deposition (PVD), automation of characterization workflows, micro/nanofabrication, device production, surface metrology, and crystallography.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills including verbal, written, and visual presentation abilities with strong storytelling aptitude.
  • Ability to confidently engage with interdisciplinary research teams and customers to discuss technological innovations.
  • Proactive and creative problem solver comfortable in dynamic, collaborative environments.
