About the Role

Cessnock City Council is inviting applications for a proactive and community-oriented Ranger to join its committed Ranger Services team. This position offers an engaging career path where each day presents unique challenges, involving working directly within the community.

The Ranger’s duties focus on safeguarding public safety, addressing community concerns, enforcing local laws, and educating residents and businesses to promote responsible practices. This role combines compliance enforcement, customer service, and problem-solving, ensuring a varied and stimulating work environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement and enforce legislation related to companion animals, public areas, environmental protection, and parking regulations.
  • Investigate citizen complaints and requests, carrying out necessary regulatory measures.
  • Provide accurate, professional, and timely customer service, while engaging the community to encourage compliance.
  • Perform patrols and inspections to maintain safe, accessible, and well-managed public spaces.
  • Compile thorough reports, legal documentation, and evidence to facilitate investigations and legal proceedings as needed.

Candidate Profile and Requirements

Successful candidates will demonstrate excellent communication and conflict resolution abilities, be adept at interpreting and applying legislation, and comfortable working independently while fostering positive community relationships. They will exercise sound judgment, maintain professionalism in a fast-paced setting, and have the following qualifications and credentials:

  • Certificate IV in Local Government (Regulatory Services) or Certificate IV in Government Investigations, or equivalent experience.
  • Current Class C Driver Licence.
  • Eligibility to be appointed as a Justice of the Peace.

Compensation and Benefits

The role offers a salary between $84,869 and $98,270 per annum, plus superannuation. Additionally, a lease-back vehicle is provided for full private use.
