About KH Engineering Ltd
KH Engineering Ltd operates a 70,000-square-foot facility in Allenwood, Naas, Co. Kildare specializing in structural steel fabrication and erection. Producing up to 200 tons of fabricated and painted steel weekly, the company serves clients throughout Ireland from its Midlands location, roughly 26 miles from Dublin. Committed to timely delivery and superior quality, the company boasts a skilled workforce and highly efficient operations.
Role Summary
The Structural Steel Quality Assurance Supervisor oversees the on-site quality of structural steel installation projects primarily based in Dublin and across Ireland. Reporting to the Project or Contracts Manager, this role ensures that all installation activities comply with project specifications, approved drawings, standards, client quality expectations, and KH Engineering’s Quality Management System from start to finish.
Responsibilities
- Conduct pre-installation inspections including foundations, bolt placements, levels, and setting out to confirm readiness for steel erection.
- Verify availability and accuracy of all relevant drawings, revisions, inspection and test plans (ITPs) prior to commencement.
- Review fabrication and delivery documentation; ensure traceability of incoming steelwork.
- Manage and implement project-specific ITPs; execute hold and witness point inspections and maintain comprehensive quality records.
- Monitor the installation quality focusing on alignment, bolt torque, structural tolerances, installation sequence, connections, secondary steel, staircases, handrails, and finishing standards.
- Ensure all work adheres to approved plans, project specifications, EN standards, and client requirements.
- Inspect protective coating and painting processes including damage repair, dry film thickness (DFT) measurements, and identification of defects such as runs, pinholes, and contamination.
- Generate painting inspection reports and coordinate corrective actions with painting contractors.
- Maintain complete documentation including inspection reports, ITPs, DFT readings, snag lists, NCRs, corrective actions, checklists, photographs, and daily quality logs.
- Identify and manage non-conformance issues early, issue NCRs, monitor corrective actions, and ensure timely closure to prevent recurrence.
- Support client and third-party inspections by coordinating scheduling, attending audits, and liaising with stakeholders.
- Prepare and compile final handover documentation including quality dossiers, as-built records, NCR closure documents, and ensure compliance with client and project deadlines.
- Promote onsite health, safety, and environmental standards; actively participate in toolbox talks and report any quality or safety concerns.
Requirements
- Comprehensive knowledge of structural steel quality standards and requirements.
- Experience with Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and conducting onsite quality inspections.
- Strong organisational skills with proficiency in report writing and documentation management.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to coordinate between multiple stakeholders.
- Possession of a full driving licence.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certifications such as CSR/Safe Pass and Manual Handling.
- Practical experience with structural steelwork inspections.
- Familiarity with EN 1090 execution standards and ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.

Work Conditions
This role is site-based and requires frequent presence on construction sites to manage and supervise quality assurance activities during structural steel installation projects throughout Ireland, primarily in Dublin.
