About the Role
We are looking for two full-time, permanent Psychologists to join our Learning Support team at the Ministry of Education in Whanganui. These positions involve working as part of a trans-disciplinary team to address complex needs of children and young people in early learning services, schools, and other educational environments. Your role will be instrumental in advancing inclusive educational practices and providing specialist support to educators, families, and other stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Support early learning centers, schools, teachers, and families by building capability to meet children's learning needs effectively.
- Conduct specialized assessments and provide evidence-based analysis to design collaborative interventions.
- Participate actively in a trans-disciplinary team to address complex cases.
- Engage in various activities including individual casework, group-focused targeted work, universal system-level initiatives, and potential project involvement.
- Encourage innovative thinking and collaboration to achieve positive student outcomes.
- Potentially develop a specialized service delivery area tailored to serve the region's learners.
Candidate Profile
- Registered Psychologist with the New Zealand Health Practitioners Competency Assurance Act and holding a current practicing certificate, or registered as an Intern.
- Possess a master’s level tertiary qualification along with a postgraduate Diploma in Educational Psychology or a related equivalent.
- Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with diverse cultures, recognizing and honoring their identity, language, and culture.
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn about Te Ao Māori, promoting tikanga and Te Reo Māori within the workplace.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate proficiently with students (ākonga), families (whānau), and teachers (kaiako) from varied backgrounds.
- Competent in translating practitioner knowledge into practical strategies to empower adults supporting children.
- Skilled in coordinating services in a multi-agency and trans-disciplinary environment.
- Possession of a full, current driver's license and readiness to travel within the district.
- Commitment to uphold Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.
