Role Summary
Kirby is expanding its planning team in Dublin to support a major engineering project portfolio spanning over five years. The Project Planner will collaborate closely with Project Managers, engineers, and commercial teams to ensure timely, budget-compliant, and quality-driven project delivery while managing risks effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze contract documents to identify scheduling and tracking requirements.
- Create construction schedules based on high-level targets and Work Breakdown Structures from project managers.
- Assist in negotiating schedules with clients and main contractors.
- Integrate labour hours and metrics into schedules using data from the commercial team.
- Design and maintain trackers and reporting templates relevant to project progress.
- Coordinate fully integrated construction schedules with main contractors and project managers.
- Regularly measure and verify weekly progress and efficiency with site and commercial teams.
- Identify and communicate potential risks and obstacles continuously to planning leadership and project teams.
Project Lifecycle Involvement
- Serve as the primary contact for project managers on all planning-related issues.
- Develop schedules and histograms to support bids as directed by lead planners.
- Support planning process implementation and ensure contract schedule/reporting obligations are met.
- Facilitate planning meetings and validate evolving schedules against current project information.
- Optimize construction schedules and resolve discrepancies with main contractors through registers and negotiation.
- Produce labour-loaded target schedules and S-curves, submitting them for lead planner approval.
- Negotiate schedule risks to achieve favorable outcomes for Kirby Group Engineering.
- Prepare build methodologies, phasing drawings, and present schedule updates to construction teams.
- Assist in risk identification and mitigation strategies throughout project phases.
- Communicate early warning signs of potential delays or risks to management teams.
- Monitor progress and efficiency, including subcontractor outputs, providing labor hour estimates with the commercial team.
- Lead and facilitate weekly look-ahead meetings and measure actual installation progress for reporting.
- Maintain and revise schedules and escalate risk concerns to senior planners.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a strong trades background paired with technical expertise.
- Between 3 to 5 years of experience in project planning, including developing and managing schedules and controlling project activities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, or equivalent scheduling software and Microsoft Office suite with strong report-writing capabilities.
- Effective time management skills to meet demanding schedules and reporting deadlines.
