Overview
This role is for a Project Manager Compliance located in the United States, offering a fully remote work setting. The position involves overseeing key compliance initiatives related to payroll tax filings, ensuring that all activities meet regulatory standards and operational excellence. The manager will work across multiple teams including compliance, engineering, and product to ensure tax form approvals and electronic filing certifications are accurate and timely.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead comprehensive compliance projects addressing federal and state payroll tax filing requirements.
- Oversee payroll tax form approval workflows, guaranteeing adherence to agency regulations and validation criteria prior to submissions.
- Coordinate electronic filing certification efforts, including agency testing, validations, and approval management.
- Act as the main liaison among compliance, engineering, and product teams to facilitate efficient certification implementations and updates.
- Evaluate form modifications, verify system outputs, troubleshoot issues, and contribute to testing during development phases.
- Create and maintain structured processes to monitor tax form changes at federal and state levels year-round.
- Track regulatory changes proactively and lead system updates to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Document tax form, process, and certification changes for transparency and accuracy.
- Investigate and resolve compliance challenges using root cause analysis and sustainable solutions.
- Maintain detailed project schedules, progress summaries, and status reports for compliance projects.
- Manage multiple concurrent priorities while delivering high-quality compliance initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree is mandatory.
- Minimum of five years experience in employer tax compliance, payroll tax, or related fields.
- Proven track record managing complex projects with compliance, regulatory, or operational scope.
- In-depth knowledge of federal and multi-state payroll tax filing and compliance processes.
- Practical experience with electronic filing systems, certification workflows, and agency testing.
- Strong collaboration skills with engineering and product teams.
- Experience with payroll systems or tax filing platforms preferred.
- Understanding of agency schemas, file formats like XML or EFW2, and validation processes is advantageous.
- Demonstrates strong ownership and project management skills from inception to completion.
- Excellent organizational abilities to handle multiple deadlines and priorities.
- Effective communication skills adapted to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to work autonomously in a remote setting with strong attention to detail.
