Job Role

The Project Controller will independently manage the financial aspects of projects from bidding through to closure. Positioned within the Finance team and working closely with Operations, this role collaborates with Project and Contract Managers to ensure projects adhere to group standards for financial performance, timely and accurate reporting, forecasting, and risk management throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Bid Manager in cost modeling, financial viability assessment, and risk/opportunity evaluation to aid go/no-go decisions.
  • Participate in project handover, review contract financial terms, establish revenue recognition methods, and set up billing plans and schedules in the ERP system.
  • Issue advance payment invoices, coordinate performance and advance payment bonds, and prepare initial financial forecasts for management review.
  • Lead quarterly financial reviews at project progress meetings; analyze actuals versus forecasts, explain variances, and update cost-to-complete estimates.
  • Review risks and opportunities with Project Managers, adjust contingencies, optimize billing milestones for cash flow improvement.
  • Manage customer invoicing, follow up on overdue payments, and coordinate recovery actions.
  • Conduct month-end closing activities including time bookings, intercompany transactions, cost accruals, and revenue reconciliations.
  • Oversee bond management and guarantee releases, assist with tax inquiries and audit requests.
  • Confirm project close-out checklist, finalize financial settlements, close purchase orders and bonds, and ensure complete revenue collection.
  • Engage in lessons-learned reviews post project completion.

Key Relationships

  • Work closely with Project and Contract Managers on financial and commercial project matters.
  • Coordinate with Project Sponsors and Business Leaders for project performance accountability and forecast approvals.
  • Liaise with Finance Managers for forecast validation and escalation support.
  • Collaborate with Shared Services, Regional Treasury, Legal, Insurance, and Tax departments on relevant transactional and compliance tasks.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience in project finance, preferably within engineering, consulting, or professional services sectors.
  • Strong understanding of contract terms, billing structures, revenue recognition, and risk allocation.
  • High analytical capability for forecasting, variance analysis, and handling complex datasets with actionable insights.
  • Effective organizational skills to manage multiple projects and meet demanding month-end deadlines.
  • Ability to make independent, sound financial decisions without close oversight.
  • Excellent communication skills to clearly present financial data to operational teams, management, and auditors.
  • Proficiency with ERP project finance modules and Excel; experience with Power BI or similar tools is advantageous.
