sKids has been running out-of-school care programmes for children across New Zealand since 1996. The organisation focuses on creating enjoyable, educational, and adventurous experiences for tamariki.
Role summary
The team is hiring for Programme and Assistant Manager positions in the Lower Hutt, Wellington area. These are part-time onsite roles supporting before-school and after-school care.
- Programme Manager: fixed-term maternity cover starting in August, with at least 15 hours each week.
- Assistant Programme Manager: minimum 10 hours each week.
- Multisite Assistant Programme Manager (Boulcott and Newlands): minimum 6 hours each week.
Working hours
Work is scheduled Monday to Friday.
- Before-school care runs from 7:00am to 8:30am.
- After-school care runs from 2:30pm to 6:00pm, and availability from 2:30pm is essential.
- Extra hours may be available during school holiday programmes for those seeking additional work.
Key duties
You will help create a safe, enjoyable, and active environment where children can participate and thrive. Depending on the position, responsibilities may include activity delivery, child supervision, and programme leadership.
- Plan and support activities such as arts and crafts, sport, games, cooking, and imaginative play.
- Oversee children’s safety, wellbeing, and engagement throughout the programme.
- Apply positive behaviour guidance for children with varied needs.
- Develop strong working relationships with parents, caregivers, and school personnel.
- Assist with or take ownership of the daily programme flow, including set-up and pack-down.
- In leadership positions, guide and support other team members to deliver a strong programme.

- Leadership or supervision experience for Programme Manager and Assistant Programme Manager roles.
- Comfort and confidence managing groups of children.
- Applicants for Programme Manager and Assistant Programme Manager roles must be at least 20 years old under the Social Security (Childcare Assistance) Regulations 2004.
