Role overview
His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service is hiring prison officers for HMP Highpoint in Cheveley, England. This is a fast-moving role for people with integrity, resilience and strong interpersonal skills who want to help protect the public and support positive change in offenders’ lives.
The salary for this position is £35,746 to £40,003.
About the role
Prison officers work in a setting where no two days are the same. The role is varied, demanding and people-focused, with opportunities to build a long-term career and grow into different specialisms over time.
You may come from many different backgrounds, including parenting, teaching, retail or the armed forces. What matters is that you bring empathy, confidence and clear communication, and can build professional, constructive relationships with offenders, including those who may be at a very low point in their lives.
Working as part of a team is essential in this environment. You will need to support colleagues fully and understand that keeping the prison, offenders and staff safe depends on everyone acting together.
Key duties
In a single shift, you could take on several different responsibilities. At one moment you may need to act as a peacekeeper, then switch to supporting, guiding or educating prisoners in a unique custodial setting.
Your work will involve direct engagement with prisoners while contributing to public safety and helping individuals make meaningful progress.
Working pattern
This role requires flexibility for different shift patterns, including weekends.
