Role Overview and Responsibilities

We seek a Principal Platform Engineer who excels as a builder, systems thinker, and technical leader. This role involves advancing our hybrid cloud and bare-metal infrastructure, enabling product and engineering teams to deploy software swiftly and reliably. Our environment includes terabyte-scale Elasticsearch clusters, an extensive CI/CD pipeline, and thousands of container-based production workloads emphasizing automation, observability, and system resilience.

• Develop and execute a platform vision through incremental, value-driven improvements enhancing usability and adoption.
• Define pragmatic infrastructure, security, and operations standards that balance consistency with operational flexibility.
• Lead major platform-related projects from conception through deployment.
• Mentor platform engineers to enhance team capabilities and establish a culture of technical excellence.
• Drive technical decisions and implement engineering best practices for robust, scalable, and maintainable system design.
• Create and improve self-service platform functionalities to optimize developer experience and standardize workflows across traditional and AI-related use cases.
• Optimize Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines to reduce manual interventions and elevate developer productivity.
• Steer reliability and observability efforts by conducting postmortems, setting Service Level Objectives (SLOs), and building systems for monitoring resilience and platform stability.

Candidate Profile and Required Qualifications

• 16 to 20+ years experience in platform, cloud, or infrastructure engineering focusing on hybrid cloud and bare-metal systems.
• Deep hands-on expertise in platform engineering with a focus on first-principles problem solving and delivering tangible value.
• Demonstrated adaptability across small startups and large, fast-paced enterprise settings.
• Strong product-oriented approach to platform engineering by understanding internal stakeholder needs and resolving systemic challenges to boost adoption and productivity.
• Solid experience with CI/CD, automation, container orchestration platforms, and infrastructure automation tools such as Kubernetes, Docker, ArgoCD, and Terraform.
• Proven capacity to manage end-to-end production systems combining operational leadership and technical mentorship.
• Implementation of enterprise-grade security and compliance practices without hindering innovation.
• Expertise in managing high-scale distributed applications including databases (both SQL and NoSQL), Elasticsearch, caching systems, and large-scale data pipelines.

Compensation and Diversity Commitment

Conductor offers competitive performance-based remuneration with a current salary band between 130,000 and 160,000 euros per annum for this Berlin-based position.
