Role Overview
The City of Katy is hiring full-time Police Officers for the Katy Police Department. This position is centered on protecting the public, supporting the community, and carrying out core law-enforcement duties with professionalism and sound judgment.
Key Duties
- Patrol residential areas, commercial zones, and public spaces to discourage and identify criminal behavior.
- Handle emergency and routine service calls, including crashes, disputes, and investigative matters.
- Apply traffic regulations, investigate vehicle accidents, and issue citations or make arrests when required.
- Carry out criminal investigations by collecting evidence, examining scenes, and interviewing suspects.
- Execute warrants and subpoenas and support lawful searches and enforcement activity.
- Prepare accurate documentation such as incident, arrest, accident, and investigation reports.
- Assist the public, share information, and contribute to community safety efforts.
- Help with prisoner transport, booking, and courtroom testimony when needed.
- Inspect patrol vehicles and complete routine maintenance checks.
- Stay physically prepared and proficient in defensive tactics, firearms handling, and safety protocols.
- Support emergency response and critical incident operations as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Basic Peace Officer certification is mandatory.
- High school diploma or an equivalent credential.
- Valid state-issued driver’s license; a Texas Class C license is specifically required.
- Ability to stay composed under pressure and make practical decisions in difficult situations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for working with colleagues and the public.
- Good understanding of criminal, traffic, and civil law.
- Must meet physical fitness and defensive tactics standards.
- Must be comfortable working in demanding environments, including potentially hazardous or high-stress situations.
- No sponsorship is available for this role.
- Applicants from outside Texas should review TCOLE requirements before applying.
- Candidates must already hold TCOLE certification to be considered.
- The role is classified as Essential Critical Infrastructure personnel.
Compensation and Benefits
The starting salary range for this role is $70,000 to $88,000.
