Overview
The Planning Engineer will play a crucial role in supporting project planning, scheduling, progress tracking, and reporting for EPC Oil & Gas and Power Plant projects. Using Primavera P6, you will develop and maintain detailed project schedules, monitor ongoing progress, validate performance data, and generate reports to enable effective project management and timely delivery.
Core Responsibilities
- Create and update project schedules in Primavera P6 aligning with approved WBS, coding structures, and project criteria.
- Assist the Lead Planner in managing Level 3 and Level 4 schedules ensuring logical activity flow, proper links, and overall integrity.
- Gather, assess, and confirm progress data from cross-functional teams including engineering, procurement, construction, contractors, and subcontractors.
- Record actual dates, remaining work durations, and forecasted completion in Primavera P6.
- Track project performance versus baseline schedules; detect deviations, delays, and potential risks.
- Compile various planning reports such as weekly/monthly updates, S-curves, manpower histograms, productivity summaries, and dashboards.
- Conduct schedule analyses including critical path validation and variance analysis, and contribute to recovery planning.
- Cross-check reported progress against physical accomplishments, quantity benchmarks, and defined measurement systems.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to receive timely inputs and address any planning data inconsistencies.
- Provide planning-related data for cost control functions, including analysis of Cost Performance Index (CPI) and Schedule Performance Index (SPI), forecasts, and performance reports.
- Maintain thorough documentation including schedule baselines, updates, change logs, and planning reports.
- Improve planning processes, templates, and reporting tools through continuous enhancement initiatives.
Education and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a closely related field.
- Professional certifications are preferred or in progress, such as PMI Scheduling Professional (PMI-SP), AACE Planning & Scheduling Professional (PSP), or equivalent.
Experience
- 3 to 6 years of solid experience in project planning and scheduling for EPC projects, ideally within Oil & Gas, Pipeline, Petrochemical, or Power Plant sectors.
- Proven practical use of Primavera P6 for developing schedules, managing baselines, updating progress, and conducting critical path analyses.
- Sound understanding of project controls techniques including progress evaluation, S-curves, manpower histograms, productivity measurements, and schedule variance assessments.
- Hands-on experience monitoring project progress and reporting in coordination with multidisciplinary teams and contractors.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Power BI for data reporting and dashboard preparation.
