Job description
Role Overview
Join a locally owned Shoppers Drug Mart to provide health, beauty, and convenience services as a Pharmacy Assistant. You will play a vital role in assisting technical dispensing activities, supporting pharmacy service delivery, and maintaining daily pharmacy operations in compliance with Pharmacy Standards of Practice. Deliver superior and timely customer service while ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Welcome customers promptly and collect prescription details following established standards
- Prioritize tasks based on assigned roles and schedules
- Refer clinical questions directly to the pharmacist
- Set and manage realistic customer wait time expectations
- Process prescription and ancillary product sales, maintaining cash register accountability
- Ensure customers needing pharmacist counseling are appropriately referred
- Maintain confidentiality and privacy standards rigorously
- Handle new and repeat prescription orders per standard operating procedures
- Prepare and submit medication orders, excluding controlled substances and narcotics
- Manage third-party billing and accounts both online and manual
- Answer phone calls and escalate to pharmacist when needed
- Process faxes according to professional standards
- Support pharmacists in coordinating patient callbacks
- Complete documentation filing accurately in line with Pharmacy Standards
- Assist in prescription preparation, data entry, refill handling, and medication selection following professional standards
- Precisely count, measure, package, and label prescriptions
- Maintain pharmacy data integrity within relevant pharmacy software systems
Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum requirement of a High School Diploma
- Preferred: Diploma from an accredited Pharmacy Assistant program
- Prior experience working in a pharmacy environment is advantageous
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
- Effective problem-solving skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy

Compensation
The hourly wage ranges between $17.95 and $20.00, dependent on experience, knowledge, and geographic location of the position.
