Operator - Control Room

Job Overview

This role involves overseeing and controlling various components of combined cycle power generation systems, including gas and steam turbines and auxiliary electrical operations. Operators are key to ensuring optimal plant functionality and adherence to operational standards.

Primary Responsibilities

• Continuously observe and manage the power generation systems such as gas turbines, steam turbines, and heat recovery steam generators, alongside high voltage electrical operations.
• Operate control systems proactively to enhance performance while respecting operational boundaries and efficiency goals.
• Coordinate with the Load Dispatch Centre to receive, implement, and communicate dispatch directives, adjusting power generation to fulfill dynamic demand in accordance with Power Purchase Agreement terms.
• Maintain detailed logs of operational data, system performance, and generation statistics; prepare compliance and incident reports for regulatory review.
• Adhere strictly to safety protocols, actively participating in audits, drills, and trainings to uphold workplace safety; report hazards immediately.
• Assist the Shift Charge Engineer in plant isolations and preparation of Permit to Work (PTW) documentation; serve as an emergency response team member.
• Diagnose technical and operational issues with support from technical teams, applying corrective measures to reduce downtime and boost reliability.
• Collaborate closely with maintenance, engineering, and operational departments, providing support and mentoring to junior operators and newcomers.
• Ensure the plant operates within all environmental, safety, and operational regulatory frameworks, contributing to inspections and compliance activities.

Educational and Professional Requirements

• Possess a Bachelor's degree or Diploma, preferably in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering disciplines.
• Have at least five years of professional work experience, including over three years as a Control Room Operator in combined cycle power plant operations and maintenance.
• Experience with Siemens Gas Turbine based Combined Cycle Gas Turbines is preferred.

Technical Knowledge and Language Skills

• Comprehensive understanding of combined cycle power generation mechanisms and familiarity with regulatory and contractual nuances under Power Purchase Agreements.
• Must be fluent in English; knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

• Capable of performing effectively under pressure in a dynamic setting and adept at managing emergency scenarios.
• Available for shift work encompassing nights, weekends, and holidays as operational demands dictate.
• Experience working primarily in control room settings with occasional responsibilities requiring plant facility visits.
