Museum Educator (Schools) - Temporary Cover, Part Time

About the Role

The Fitzwilliam Museum, the University of Cambridge’s main museum and the largest cultural destination in the region, connects the University, the city and audiences beyond it through research, exhibitions, public learning and a collection that spans many cultures and centuries. This position offers the chance to help children, young people and families engage more deeply with the museum’s collections and with cultural life across Cambridge, the wider region and beyond.

What You’ll Be Doing

You will be part of a team delivering high-quality, facilitated learning sessions for school-aged children and young people in the museum, in schools and across community settings in Cambridgeshire. The role involves working with education leaders, teachers, children and young people to shape creative and innovative approaches to engagement. You will also partner with museum colleagues, artists and other specialists to design and prepare sessions that achieve the intended learning outcomes.

Teaching and learning activities take place in the public galleries, in dedicated education spaces and through outreach. Museum collections are used as a starting point for exploring curriculum areas such as history, art, geography, languages, technology, science, maths, creative writing, RE and music. Sessions are designed to be discussion-led rather than lecture-based, helping participants build confidence, strengthen skills and make fresh connections as they explore, respond to and question the world around them.

How Success Is Measured

The postholder will use agreed methods to assess and demonstrate the impact of the programme. Feedback from evaluation and consultation will be used to improve future delivery and strengthen the overall learning offer.

Additional Information

This is a fixed-term position for 1 year. Interviews are scheduled for Friday 31 July 2026. After an offer is accepted, the successful candidate will need to complete an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check with children’s barred list clearance, as well as a security check.
