Opportunity

Save the Children International is hiring a motivated and qualified MEAL Officer to support the Save the Children–Balaka District Council Project. The role focuses on tracking project performance, strengthening learning, and using evidence to guide decisions.

Based at the Balaka District Education Office, the officer will work closely with the programme team to help ensure strong delivery of project results. The position is designed to strengthen monitoring systems, evaluation processes, accountability structures, and learning practices so that project performance can be measured and improved.

The post reports to the Programme Coordinator.

Key Responsibilities

Monitoring

  • Follow project activities and outputs against approved work plans.
  • Design and roll out indicators, tools, and systems that measure progress.
  • Maintain data collection that is timely, reliable, and accurate.

Evaluation

  • Review progress toward project objectives and outcomes.
  • Carry out baseline, midline, and endline assessments.
  • Measure the project’s impact and overall effectiveness.

Accountability

  • Support transparency and accountability for beneficiaries and stakeholders.
  • Create and manage mechanisms for feedback and complaints.
  • Ensure community feedback is gathered, analysed, and acted on.

Learning

  • Examine project data and capture lessons learned.
  • Share key findings to encourage ongoing improvement.
  • Promote evidence-led decisions and adaptive project delivery.

Data Management and Reporting

  • Protect data quality, confidentiality, and safe storage.
  • Prepare reports, dashboards, and analytical summaries.
  • Assist with reporting needs for donors and management.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Monitoring and Evaluation, Statistics, Development Studies, Economics, or another related discipline.
  • At least four years of relevant experience in a comparable MEAL position.
  • Hands-on experience with monitoring and evaluation systems and frameworks.
  • Strong ability to analyse and interpret data.
  • Good report writing and communication skills.
  • Experience using digital tools for data management.
  • Careful attention to detail, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other computer applications.
