About the Role
The Millwright Superintendent functions as the site-specific leader overseeing Millwright Industrial Services operations. This role entails managing all aspects of work planning, coordination, leadership, and control at an assigned job location. The superintendent ensures safety, profitability, and operational efficiency daily and reports directly to the Millwright Industrial Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Directly supervises foremen, leadmen, craft laborers, and apprentices, assigning tasks based on skill sets and training to ensure project success.
- Engages with clients and property owners through job site walkthroughs to assess problems and address constructability concerns.
- Maintains consistent communication with management to foster teamwork and project success across assignments.
- Prepares and submits all necessary documentation including timecards, inspection records, bills of lading, quality control reports, and "as built" drawings efficiently; may assume project management duties on smaller jobs lacking an assigned PM.
- Collaborates with Project Managers to schedule daily activities, resource allocation, and monitors resource utilization effectively.
- Organizes meetings, reviews project documentation such as purchase orders, contracts, specs, and blueprints; communicates effectively with project engineers and managers to support smooth project execution.
- Monitors project progress to meet timeline and scheduling requirements; assists in job scheduling and estimates materials, labor, and resources needed.
- Exhibits strong leadership presence primarily on-site.
- Participates in quality control and safety audits, disseminates safety information from relevant teams.
- Mentors team members by recommending training opportunities; ensures compliance with site-specific safety training and company policies; fosters team spirit and resolves conflicts.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Class C driver’s license or higher.
- Completed training in manlift operation, fall protection, confined space, and first aid including CPR and AED.
- Competent in general computer use.
- Ability to pass ergonomics testing relevant to construction work.
- Available to respond to work-related calls 24/7 year-round, with prior approval needed for any leave.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum eight years of experience in mechanical trades within maintenance and construction sectors.
- At least two years as a foreman overseeing millwright tasks and two years’ experience at superintendent level.
- National UBC Superintendent certification recommended.
- Completion of state-recognized millwright apprenticeship or equivalent.
- Vocational or technical degree relevant to the field.
- Some college education, associate or bachelor’s degree in mechanical sciences or engineering.
- Knowledge and training in welding, metallurgy, hydraulics, machine shop practices, laser alignment, rigging, crane operations, and boating certification.
- OSHA 10 or equivalent safety certifications such as MSHA 46 or C-Stop.
- Familiarity with CAD and ability to produce detailed drawings.
- Basic understanding of electrical theory, civil construction, concrete work, and carpentry.
