Job Overview
The Medical Records Coordinator at US Digestive Health is tasked with organizing and maintaining patient medical files while ensuring adherence to applicable regulations. This role involves preparing patient charts ahead of appointments, scanning, sorting, and filing paper documents into electronic medical record (EMR) systems, and processing various medical record requests from patients, insurance companies, and legal representatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare patient charts in advance of scheduled visits.
- Sort, scan, and appropriately file all physical medical documentation into EMR categories.
- Process and document requests for patient medical records, including copies.
- Fulfill records requests submitted by insurance providers and attorneys.
- Gather progress notes, test results, hospital records, and other correspondence for healthcare providers as needed.
- Answer incoming telephone calls directed to the medical records department.
- Perform additional duties as directed by the Practice Manager, Site Supervisor, or Team Lead.
Skills and Competencies
- Familiarity with medical terminology.
- Experience working with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.
- Strong organizational and effective communication skills.
- Customer service orientation and professionalism.
Working Conditions
This role operates within a professional healthcare office environment using standard office equipment. Physical requirements include standing and walking regularly, and occasionally lifting or moving items up to 25 pounds. The position follows a full-time schedule of eight-hour shifts from Monday through Friday with no weekend work expected. Travel is not part of this role.
