The position sits within a group that delivers practical, sustainable, and innovative engineering solutions for a wide variety of projects across New Zealand, with collaboration extending into the wider APNA region.
This is a full-time permanent role based onsite, with the chance to work alongside multidisciplinary specialists on projects from early concept through construction and into operation.
What you will do
- Take ownership of the design and delivery of mechanical building services assignments.
- Develop HVAC, ventilation, heating, cooling, and related mechanical system designs.
- Produce calculations, technical reports, specifications, and other design documents.
- Work closely with clients, architects, contractors, and engineering colleagues from other disciplines.
- Carry out site visits, provide construction-phase support, and review designs as needed.
- Keep projects aligned with programme, budget, and quality targets.
- Assist with proposals and help support business development efforts.
- Guide and mentor junior team members.
- Strengthen and maintain positive client relationships.
About you
The ideal candidate will bring a tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field, along with approximately 3 to 7 years of experience in building services consulting. You should have solid technical knowledge of HVAC and mechanical systems used in buildings, plus experience delivering work across sectors such as commercial, healthcare, education, transport, aviation, or public facilities.
Experience with sustainable building design and energy-conscious solutions is important, as is the ability to communicate well and manage stakeholders effectively. You should be comfortable working in multidisciplinary project teams and be moving toward chartership.
Projects and team environment
You will contribute to a broad mix of projects across New Zealand while working with specialists in structures, civil engineering, building services, digital delivery, and project management. The team supports work from concept design through to construction and operation, and you will also have access to Mott MacDonald’s global technical network.
What is on offer
- Flexible working arrangements, including hybrid options.
- Support for professional development and chartership progression.
- Access to local and international technical specialists.
- Opportunities to work on challenging, high-profile projects.
- A collaborative and inclusive team environment.
- Competitive pay and benefits.
