Job description
Overview
Join a leading healthcare company in Nairobi and play a pivotal role in ensuring that innovative medications become accessible to millions throughout sub-Saharan Africa. This role focuses on building key partnerships, advocating for favorable policies, and establishing pathways that facilitate wide-scale patient access to life-changing treatments.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute comprehensive market access plans across targeted countries, focusing on public-sector channels like government tenders, national procurement, and health programs.
- Forge and maintain collaborative relationships with Ministries of Health, insurance agencies, payers, and regulatory bodies to advocate for inclusion of medicines in Essential Medicines Lists, reimbursement policies, and national treatment protocols.
- Identify and manage partnerships with development organizations, multilaterals, NGOs, and private sector entities to create jointly funded, multi-stakeholder access programs.
- Coordinate access initiatives with broader health system enhancements, such as improving diagnosis, treatment delivery, healthcare provider capabilities, and patient care journeys.
- Act as the main liaison integrating efforts across Commercial, Medical, Corporate Affairs, and Global Access teams to ensure synchrony of access initiatives with overarching business targets.
- Lead programs in multiple sub-Saharan African markets, promoting replicable successful models and facilitating regional scaling aligned with long-term organizational goals.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree or equivalent in fields such as Public Health, Health Economics, Policy, Life Sciences, or Business.
- 7 to over 10 years of relevant experience in Market Access, Public Affairs, or Health Policy with substantial achievements in government interfacing, pricing strategies, reimbursement frameworks, and tender management.
- Proven ability to devise and implement access strategies within African or similar emerging markets, preferably with experience across multiple countries or regions.
- Exceptional stakeholder management capabilities, able to build trust with senior governmental and development partner representatives.
- Strong strategic mindset combined with commercial insight and a problem-solving, entrepreneurial approach.
- Experience in access-to-medicine initiatives, collaborative business models, or partnerships with international organizations and NGOs is highly favorable.
