The Opportunity
The Hot Strip Mill team in Port Kembla is hiring a Maintenance Shift Team Leader. This role sits within the broader Australian Steel Products portfolio, which includes six major manufacturing sites at Port Kembla that serve both export and domestic customers with products, solutions, and services.
In this position, you will lead shift maintenance activities to improve equipment performance and keep plant availability high. You will work alongside operations and maintenance teams to help deliver outcomes that are both safe and efficient.
This is a permanent position on a 7-day rotating roster, covering 12-hour day and night shifts.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct and support shift maintenance work so business goals are met and operational performance stays on track.
- Keep safety as a non-negotiable priority by spotting risks early and acting on improvement opportunities.
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee maintenance work so production continues safely, efficiently, and to required standards.
- Work closely with maintenance, operations, and planning teams to schedule work effectively and allocate resources well.
- Promote a proactive maintenance culture by identifying ways to improve reliability, maintenance methods, and asset performance.
- Coach, guide, and develop team members to strengthen technical skills, accountability, and overall team effectiveness.
- At times, lead and support both operations and maintenance teams to deliver business targets and maintain strong performance.
About You
You are an energetic and practical leader with a strong commitment to teamwork, safety, and operational excellence. You bring the following:
- Proven experience leading teams in manufacturing, industrial, or other operational environments.
- A strong safety-first approach and genuine care for your own wellbeing and that of others.
- Tertiary qualifications in engineering, preferably mechanical, electrical, or operational, are viewed favourably.
- Good judgement and the ability to act quickly and effectively in a fast-moving production setting.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to turn business goals into clear priorities and actions for the team.
- A mindset focused on continuous improvement and long-term, sustainable results.
