About the Role
Join Herefordshire Council's Highways and Public Realm team during a transformative period as we bring critical services directly under Council management to enhance flexibility, accountability, and service quality. This role focuses on maintaining the county's highways, public spaces, and street safety by ensuring timely inspections, maintenance, and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform planned and reactive inspections over a 2,000-mile network to identify and document defects needing repair.
- Collaborate with local representatives such as Ward Members and Parish Councils to address community issues related to highways and public realm.
- Coordinate with contractors to verify that minor works comply with required standards.
- Execute basic enforcement tasks including serving notices and preparing reports or correspondence as necessary.
Candidate Profile
- Preferred possession of a relevant qualification like LANTRA Accredited Highway Safety Inspector or applicable inspection experience.
- GCSE-level education in English and Maths or equivalent qualifications.
- Experience and understanding of highways environments.
- Willingness and ability to travel across various sites, including walking reasonable distances in all weather conditions.
Benefits and Terms
- Salary range: £28,142 to £32,062 (Grade HC6).
- 37 hours per week work schedule.
- 31 days annual leave (pro rata) plus bank holidays, with an option to purchase up to an additional 10 days per year.
