Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Librarian to effectively manage and enhance the school library's resources and services. This role involves overseeing collections, developing library policies, supporting the educational community, and fostering a vibrant reading culture aligned with the school's academic goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Organize and maintain the school library's collection including books, digital content, periodicals, and multimedia materials.
- Create and enforce library policies and procedures that support the educational mission of the institution.
- Assist students, faculty, and staff in finding, evaluating, and utilizing information resources efficiently.
- Plan and promote reading initiatives such as author visits, literary events, and programs that support the curriculum.
- Manage acquisition, cataloguing, and weeding to keep the library's collection current and diverse.
- Maintain detailed records on library usage and inventory for administrative purposes.
- Administer library technologies including integrated library systems, e-resource platforms, and digital lending services.
- Lead, guide, and mentor library assistants, volunteers, and interns.
- Collaborate with educators to integrate library resources into teaching and project work.
- Ensure the library remains a secure, welcoming space that inspires independent study and reading.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Library Science (MLIS) or an equivalent credential.
- Certification from a recognized professional body, such as the Indian Library Association.
- Strong understanding of cataloguing standards like AACR2, RDA, and MARC.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written.
- Competent with library management systems and digital resource tools.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a multicultural educational setting.
Desired Experience
- Three to five years managing an academic or school library.
- Experience in creating literacy enhancement programs and promoting reading among K–12 students.
- Knowledge of school curricula such as ICSE, IGCSE, and CBSE is a plus.
- Experience teaching teachers and students information literacy and research techniques.
- Exposure to new library technologies, digital books, and e-learning material.
