Role Overview
This fixed-term, full-time position based at Auckland University of Technology’s South Campus provides an opportunity to influence paramedicine education. The role blends hands-on paramedicine expertise with academic development to train future clinicians.
Responsibilities
- Translate practical paramedicine experience into engaging, evidence-based teaching aimed at preparing students for real-world clinical, ethical, and decision-making challenges in pre-hospital care.
- Mentor and evaluate students in both academic and simulation environments to foster safe, competent, and reflective professional practice.
- Collaborate in curriculum development, scholarship, and industry partnerships to keep paramedicine education up to date, relevant, and aligned with workforce and professional standards.
- Deliver courses across various programmes, develop teaching materials and innovative methods, assess assignments, and engage in pedagogical research while ensuring industry relevance through external engagements.

Part of the School of Acute and Primary Health, the department offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes preparing graduates for culturally safe, equitable, and evidence-informed paramedicine practice.
Candidate Profile
- Postgraduate qualification in paramedicine or a related healthcare field essential.
- Paramedicine registration is not mandatory if the candidate brings relevant expertise applicable to paramedicine education.
- Early-career academics should have some teaching assistant experience; experienced candidates should demonstrate prior lecturing, curriculum design, and ideally supervision of Masters or PhD students.
- A strong teaching focus with a commitment to maintaining professional currency through academic and industry activities.
- Active support for equity, diversity, and inclusion, including alignment with AUT's Te Aronui journey.
- Cultural humility and respect when engaging with Indigenous and culturally diverse communities, with experience supporting related initiatives viewed favorably.
Employment Terms
- Fixed-term appointment for 1 year, full-time (37.5 hours per week), working onsite at AUT’s South Campus.
- Salary range from NZD 86,000 to 102,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and skills.
