Role overview
The School of Creative and Performing Arts is hiring a motivated media specialist or experienced lecturer to become part of its creative media team at the Southend campus. The department teaches a broad mix of media subjects across television, film, print, and digital media, including University of the Arts London (UAL) qualifications and the T Level in Media, Broadcast and Production.
This opportunity suits both qualified teachers and media industry professionals who are considering a move into teaching. Applicants with strong industry experience but no teaching qualification can receive full training and support.
What the role involves
As a Lecturer in Media, you will design and deliver engaging lessons that are relevant to current industry practice across Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 courses. You will also act as Course Leader for a Level 1 group, helping learners with varied needs build the skills, confidence, and resilience needed to succeed in education and in their future careers.
You will be expected to create a welcoming and inclusive learning environment, adjust your teaching approach to support different learners, assess student work, and provide meaningful formative and summative feedback. Working closely with colleagues to encourage learner progress and achievement is also a key part of the position.
Skills and experience
The ideal candidate will be a clear communicator with a strong commitment to media education. You should have solid hands-on media production ability and be comfortable working with Adobe Creative Cloud, especially Photoshop and Premiere Pro. Understanding media theory and how it connects to practical projects would be beneficial, as would up-to-date industry knowledge that can help students progress into higher education and creative careers.
Learning environment
You will be joining a friendly, ambitious, and supportive team focused on delivering excellent learning experiences and helping students reach their career goals.
Facilities
Students learn in industry-standard spaces and equipment, including a professional Blackmagic TV studio, a dedicated green screen studio for VFX work, a purpose-built podcast suite, and a Foley suite for sound design and audio production.
Benefits
The role comes with 40 days of annual leave plus bank holidays. You will also be part of a collaborative team culture with strong opportunities for professional development and career progression. Industry professionals who move into education can access fully funded teacher training, and the role offers the chance to influence the development of future media professionals.
Qualifications
If you do not already hold a teaching qualification, you will need at least a Level 3 qualification in a relevant specialism, along with English and Maths at Level 2. The college will fully fund an in-house Cert Ed (Level 5) or PGCE (Level 6) for the successful candidate.
Application and interview information
Only applications submitted through the college e-recruit website will be considered. Interviews are scheduled for 4 August 2026.
