This position is based at Richmond State Hospital, a public behavioral health facility established in 1890, which serves as the Eastern Center of Excellence in Mental Health and Addiction Services within Indiana’s Family and Social Services Administration.

Located in a peaceful setting in northwestern Richmond, the hospital provides psychiatric and co-occurring treatment services to adults inclusive of all backgrounds, and offers a variety of therapy programs and patient employment opportunities. The medical and clinical teams work collaboratively to maintain strong, evidence-based treatment approaches.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct general maintenance inspection and upkeep of facilities, grounds, and equipment.
• Perform routine repairs involving carpentry, plumbing, and electrical systems.
• Ensure coworkers are trained in equipment operation and comply with safety practices.
• Support and assist with recreational special events as required.
• Aid in purchasing and inventory control of supplies, materials, and repair parts.
• Handle repairs to major and minor equipment, vehicles, and boats.
• Manage grounds maintenance tasks such as mowing, weeding, aeration, spraying, fertilizing, and tree trimming or removal.
• Oversee maintenance of roads including painting, snow removal, sanding, salting, repaving, and repairs.
• Provide public safety support on premises, assist in emergencies, and help rescue victims if needed.
• Assist law enforcement in investigating illegal activity on hospital properties.
• May participate in wildlife resource management activities.

Qualifications and Skills

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred; relevant experience may substitute formal education.
• Capable of traveling when reasonably accommodated.
• Proficient in general maintenance procedures including electrical, plumbing, and carpentry tasks.
• Familiarity with and ability to operate various hand and power tools.
• Competent to diagnose equipment malfunctions and perform simple repairs.
• Experienced in operating multiple types of vehicles, vessels, and heavy equipment.
• Basic math and bookkeeping skills applicable to property operations management.
• Ability to perform essential duties with or without reasonable accommodations.

This position may include supervisory responsibilities depending on the needs of the agency.
