Position Overview
We are seeking a Junior Project Planner to join our Canberra office. This role suits individuals with foundational experience in planning, scheduling, risk management, claims, or cost management who aspire to develop their careers by working on diverse and challenging engineering and construction projects. You will support project delivery by working closely with senior consultants and project managers on complex projects involving extensive project controls activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing and updating construction schedules derived from project drawings and documentation.
- Maintain project timelines by managing progress updates and resequencing tasks to mitigate delays.
- Review and validate external schedules ensuring critical path accuracy, logical sequencing, and scope alignment.
- Contribute to integrated master schedules involving multiple interrelated programs.
- Support cost-loaded and resource-loaded scheduling efforts.
- Prepare documentation related to schedule management, including basis of schedule reports.
- Participate in design programming, baseline readiness assessments, and shutdown planning processes.
- Assist project execution activities as delegated by leadership.
- Foster strong professional relationships with internal teams and client stakeholders through clear communication.
- Analyze project data and provide insights to aid decision-making processes.
- Assist in generating client-facing reports, analyses, and other project deliverables.
- Interpret construction drawings and carry out quantity take-offs and scope evaluations when necessary.
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Project Management, Construction Management, Engineering, Quantity Surveying or a related field.
- 1-2 years of industry experience in site engineering, project planning, or quantity surveying.
- Keen understanding of project planning within sectors like construction, infrastructure, energy, or telecommunications.
- Able to interpret construction drawings and conduct quantity take-offs.
- Familiarity with commercial contract principles and construction methodologies is advantageous.
- Security clearance or willingness to obtain one (Australian citizenship required due to government project support).
- Experience in contract administration is a plus but not mandatory.
- Strong analytical skills coupled with detail orientation and problem-solving aptitude.
- Proficiency in Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Power BI, and Microsoft Office suite.
- Effective communication skills including report-writing capabilities.
- A collaborative mindset and ability to work well in team settings.
- Previous consultancy experience preferred but not required.
