About the Role
Ko Taku Reo – Deaf Education New Zealand is searching for a seasoned Information Governance Lead to create and direct their information governance function. This permanent, full-time position reports to the Head of Digital and IT, with the flexibility to be based in Christchurch (preferred) or Auckland.
This role involves developing a new, robust Information Governance Framework and an Enterprise Document and Records Management System (EDRMS) from the ground up, improving how information and records are managed across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and develop information governance strategies, frameworks, processes, and related systems.
- Collaborate with Digital & IT teams and leadership across New Zealand to integrate information management best practices into daily operations.
- Ensure compliance with New Zealand legislation governing information management.
- Provide both strategic leadership and hands-on delivery — from policy development to system configuration and staff support during organizational change.
Qualifications and Experience
- A tertiary qualification (Level 7 or higher) in Information Management, Records Management, Library Sciences, Information Systems, or a closely related field.
- Significant expertise in establishing or transforming Information Governance functions rather than only maintaining existing ones.
- Experience implementing Enterprise Document and Records Management Systems (EDRMS), including needs analysis, vendor selection, deployment, and adoption.
- Proven background in designing information architecture, metadata standards, classification systems, retention and disposal policies, and comprehensive information workflows.
- Ability to analyze and redesign business processes to enhance governance and information management.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 information management tools such as SharePoint, Teams, Microsoft Purview, and associated governance technologies.
- Experience managing hybrid environments containing both physical and digital records.
- Comprehensive understanding of New Zealand laws and regulations including the Public Records Act 2005, Privacy Act 2020, and Archives New Zealand standards.
- Leadership in driving organizational change, influencing key stakeholders, and conducting training for diverse staff groups.
- Excellent project management, strategic planning, and analytical capabilities to translate frameworks into actionable outcomes.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage and influence at all levels of the organization.
- Knowledge of New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) or a willingness to learn is desirable.
Why This Role Stands Out
This is an exceptional chance to build an information governance capability that will shape Ko Taku Reo's operations for the long term. The role is more than traditional records management; it involves modernizing how information is created, governed, protected, and shared nationwide, spearheading digital information management innovations.
Application Process
If you thrive on creating structure and leading impactful organizational change with lasting outcomes, you are encouraged to apply by sending a CV and cover letter detailing your relevant experience and interest.
