- Manage payroll by verifying accuracy of work hours, paid time off, reimbursements, and other requests, communicating with client groups and internal managers to finalize payroll, and resolving issues prior to submission.
- Support compliance efforts by generating necessary documentation, issuing annual notices, ensuring the completion of federal and state compliance reports, and conducting basic research and audits such as employee file checks and handbook reviews.
- Facilitate offboarding activities including drafting termination communications, completing mandated federal and state notices, and processing final payments.
- Assist occasionally with additional tasks such as posting job openings, screening applicants, managing candidate communications, handling state registrations and insurance inquiries, maintaining standard operating procedures and compliance calendars, and supporting project management to track tasks and timelines.
Candidate Profile
- Prior experience in human resources, office management, or related administrative roles.
- Ability to work autonomously and effectively manage rapidly changing priorities and deadlines.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, maintaining professionalism and clarity.
- Highly organized with keen attention to detail and persistence in follow-through.
- Proficient project management skills with demonstrated success in managing upward.
- A flexible and proactive approach with enthusiasm for problem-solving.
- Comfortable operating independently in a remote work setting.
- Strong curiosity about business operations and the capability to comprehend organizational dynamics.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in consultative or B2B environments.
- Familiarity with small businesses or early-stage startups.
- Proficiency with G-Suite, Notion, or comparable software tools.
- Exposure to HR systems or professional employer organizations (e.g., Justworks, Gusto, Rippling).
- Basic understanding of employment laws and HR compliance areas.
Team Culture and Environment
Our distributed team collaborates through Slack and Zoom, ensuring continuous communication and project updates. We value direct and constructive dialogue, seeking to understand fundamental motivations and objectives rather than superficial explanations. Balancing structured workflows to enhance effectiveness with flexibility for adapting to changing priorities is a core aspect of our culture.
Compensation and Benefits
- Annual salary range of $70,000 to $90,000 depending on experience.
- 20 vacation days per year.
- 5 paid sick leave days annually.
- 10 company holidays.
- Subsidized parental leave.
- Medical insurance coverage.
- 401(k) plan with 3% automatic company contribution.
- Home office stipend and technology setup support.
