Overview
The housekeeper supports a clean, safe, and well-ordered setting for residents, employees, and visitors. The role focuses on keeping the facility free from clutter, odors, and debris so the environment remains comfortable and healthy for everyone in care.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain the cleanliness of shared areas such as lobbies, restrooms, drinking fountains, and flooring.
- Clean and sanitize resident rooms and bathrooms on a regular basis.
- Keep handrails wiped down so they remain clear of dust and buildup.
- Remove grime, dust, and food residue from walls, mirrors, windows, light fittings, towel bars, and dispensers.
- Collect waste, empty bins, and replace liners whenever required.
- Sweep and mop all floor areas across the facility.
- Use warning signs when needed and store cleaning chemicals safely in line with safety procedures.
- Handle cleaning tools and products according to manufacturer guidance.
- Keep carts, equipment, and storage spaces neat, sanitary, and well organized.
- Escalate resident safety concerns right away to the Director of Housekeeping, Administrator, or Director of Nursing.
- Inform the Director of Housekeeping when supplies are running low and need replenishment.
- Provide courteous service and maintain a positive, professional attitude.
- Use time well and complete assigned work efficiently.
- Work alone or with others as needed to meet facility standards.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or an equivalent credential is preferred.
- Prior housekeeping experience in a healthcare or long-term care environment is an advantage.
- Ability to follow directions and comply with safety procedures.
- Strong focus on detail and cleanliness.
- Good written and verbal communication, along with solid interpersonal skills.
- Capability to read and understand procedure manuals, instructions, and directions.
- Basic arithmetic skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Ability to solve practical issues and handle a range of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
- Ability to interpret instructions provided in written, spoken, diagram, or schedule form.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent walking, standing, bending, and reaching are part of the job.
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 lbs.
- Repetitive cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, and wiping surfaces are required.
- Use of cleaning equipment and supplies is expected throughout the shift.
- Must be able to work in a fast-moving environment and respond quickly when needs arise.
Supervision
This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.
