About the Role
This executive leadership position offers the chance to develop and expand a contemporary security function within a rapidly growing technology company based in Ireland. The Head of Security will be responsible for defining the security strategy, enhancing protection across infrastructure and applications, and fostering a security-first culture integrated into engineering workflows. This role requires combining in-depth technical knowledge with strategic management, incident handling, and collaboration across teams to boost resilience, mitigate risks, and maintain innovation velocity.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and refine the security roadmap across infrastructure, application security, internal controls, and operational robustness.
- Set security priorities, policies, processes, and scalable best practices aligned with company growth.
- Collaborate closely with engineering and infrastructure teams on secure architectural decisions and software development.
- Strengthen areas such as application security, infrastructure hardening, identity/access management, and supply chain security.
- Enhance capabilities in detection, prevention, monitoring, and incident response.
- Oversee security incident management, providing steady leadership during critical events.
- Assess security risks related to AI-driven development and emerging technologies.
- Promote security awareness via training, collaboration, and practical guidelines across teams.
- Engage in customer-facing security consultations, evaluations, and trust-building initiatives.
- Build and mentor a high-performing security team, elevating technical standards and recruiting new talent.
- Establish security processes that boost reliability while minimizing operational complexity.
- Act as a strategic security partner throughout the organization, encouraging ownership and trust culture.
Candidate Requirements
- Demonstrated leadership in managing security functions or comprehensive security programs in tech-driven environments.
- Expertise in both infrastructure and application security domains.
- Hands-on experience handling real-world security incidents and directing response strategies.
- Solid understanding of secure software development lifecycles, supply chain security, identity management, and infrastructure safeguards.
- Capability to reconcile security needs with engineering speed and business goals.
- Experience designing scalable security frameworks, processes, and operational controls.
- Strong technical knowledge of cloud systems, distributed architectures, and modern engineering processes.
- Familiarity with AWS, developer platforms, fintech, mobile, or payment systems is advantageous.
- Exceptional communication skills to engage engineers, leadership, customers, and multi-disciplinary teams effectively.
- Pragmatic and hands-on leadership style marked by strong ownership, problem-solving skills, and comfort in ambiguous settings.
- Track record of growing and scaling security teams highly desirable.
