About South Fremantle Football Club

The South Fremantle Football Club (SFFC), a respected and historic organization in Western Australia, has a proud legacy spanning over 125 years in the WAFL competition. The club is renowned for nurturing talented young footballers and supporting their advancement to senior football at both WAFL and AFL levels.

Role Overview

The Colts Head Coach collaborates with the Talent Manager and performance support teams to cultivate a high-performance culture that enhances player development and readiness for senior WAFL and AFL competition. This leadership position is tasked with fostering a positive, supportive learning environment prioritizing player wellbeing while encouraging excellence, accountability, ongoing improvement, and elevated performance standards throughout all facets of the program. Key focuses include preparing players in technical skills, tactics, physical conditioning, and behavioural expectations of senior-level football.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and sustain a strong performance culture reflecting the Club's values among players, coaches, and support staff.
  • Lead strategic planning, execution, and ongoing evaluation of the football program.
  • Oversee the coaching panel’s development and manage effective match-day coaching strategies tailored to enhance both team and individual performances.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, education, and mentorship to coaches in the Futures and Development squads, aligning coaching philosophies and player development frameworks.
  • Support player retention and engagement while fostering collaboration with stakeholders including players, parents, senior staff, club administration, and AFL affiliates to ensure smooth transition pathways to senior football.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Level 2 (Silver) AFL Coaching Accreditation.
  • Proficiency with state league IT platforms such as HUDL (video review) and Champion Data (statistics).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication capabilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to build meaningful relationships with players and staff.
  • High ethical standards and consistent leadership principles.
  • Commitment to upholding South Fremantle Football Club’s values and behaviours.
  • Availability for three weekday evening training sessions and one weekend day during the WAFL season.
  • Valid driver’s license and current Working with Children Check (or capability to obtain).

Desirable Attributes

  • Experience in State League as a Head Coach, Assistant Coach, or Player.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing directions and priorities.
  • Background in teaching or training youth players.
  • Prior experience coaching 15-18 year-olds.
  • Leadership experience managing successful teams.
  • Growth mindset and continuous learning orientation.

Additional Information

This part-time position requires up to 20 hours weekly. Compensation will correspond with the candidate’s coaching experience and align with WA Football minimum standards.
