Handyman

Position Overview

Based in Monrovia, Montserrado County, Liberia, this Handyman role supports the upkeep and operation of church facilities, ensuring these spaces are welcoming, dignified, and suitable for religious practices and community events. The objective is to maintain environments conducive to spiritual activities and to project an image of respect within the local setting.

Main Duties

• Address and resolve complex issues affecting facility maintenance, often bridging cultural or linguistic barriers to find solutions independently.
• Utilize leadership abilities to guide teams, manage processes, or oversee projects, particularly in the domain of facility security and maintenance.
• Coordinate and communicate effectively with other departments and external contacts, including law enforcement and security experts, to deliver needed support and maintain safety.
• Work in environments that may involve personal risk, confidently managing both legal and reputational challenges if they arise.
• Proactively take ownership of tasks and encourage coworkers to independently solve problems within their areas of responsibility.
• Collaborate with the Church Security Department to provide guidance, training, and security resources to church leaders, updating them on best practices and local risks.
• Establish and leverage professional networks with local industry peers, government agencies, embassies, and NGOs to access resources on behalf of the church when needed.

Required Qualifications

• Diploma (CTC II or HND) in Building Construction, Electricals, or a related field.
• At least three years of experience in Facilities Maintenance, with exposure to electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and deep cleaning roles.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for working with church leaders, vendors, and staff.
• Physical ability to climb ladders and stairs, bend, lift up to 23 kg, and perform other manual tasks required for facility repairs and cleaning.
• Experience using both manual and powered tools and familiarity with industrial cleaning equipment and chemicals, following all related safety protocols.
• Computer literacy with proficiency in MS Office, specialized facility management software, and general Internet-based tools.
• Ability to work independently or collaboratively, exhibiting a professional attitude and reliability.
• English language literacy for communication, training, and security/safety documentation.
• Must be able to adapt to flexible working hours and maintain good health.
• Must possess a valid Temple Recommend.
