Position Overview
The role of Hackathon Specialist involves planning, coordinating, and implementing hackathons and innovation-centric events that encourage creativity, problem-solving skills, cross-disciplinary teamwork, and practical application of knowledge among students. This position requires collaboration with faculty members, industry stakeholders, student organizations, and administrative departments to nurture a dynamic innovation environment within the campus.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a yearly and semester-based schedule for hackathons aligned with both academic targets and institutional goals.
- Craft event themes, pose challenge questions, establish evaluation criteria, and design problem tracks that mirror industry demands and student interests.
- Build partnerships with corporations, startups, NGOs, and government entities to obtain mentorship, sponsorship, and authentic problem cases.
- Drive student involvement by organizing workshops, introductory sessions, boot camps, and preparatory training ahead of hackathons.
- Ensure availability and functionality of technical tools such as platforms, APIs, cloud resources, and on-site technical assistance during events.
- Handle event logistics, including venue arrangement, participant registration, event scheduling, hospitality, and liaising with campus sectors.
- Recruit and coordinate mentors and judges from academic and industry backgrounds by briefing them on event objectives.
- Encourage innovation by supporting incubation initiatives, student innovation groups, and continuation of projects following hackathons.
- Document and report event outcomes, including impact assessment, media coverage, and success stories to enhance institutional recognition.
- Manage budgets effectively, secure financial sponsorships, and guarantee cost-efficient event execution.
Essential Skills and Competencies
- Excellent project management skills with strong organizational and multitasking capabilities.
- Good technical understanding of programming, emerging technologies, and developer tools, though deep expertise is not mandatory.
- Effective communication and networking talents to interface successfully with students, faculty, and industry partners.
- Creative problem-solving abilities to design meaningful challenges and engaging events.
- Experience in planning and managing large-scale events.
- Competence in collecting data, analyzing outcomes, and presenting comprehensive reports.
Qualifications
- A Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Management, or a related discipline is required.
- Prior experience organizing hackathons, coding competitions, or similar innovation-driven events is preferred.
- Familiarity with startup ecosystems, incubation centers, or developer communities is advantageous.

- Quantity of hackathons held each year.
- Metrics on student participation levels and satisfaction.
- Number and quality of industry collaborations and sponsorships obtained.
- Continuity and quality of student projects following hackathons.
