About the Role

The Grain Grader at Mennel Milling Company plays a crucial role in upholding the company’s legacy of quality and food safety that dates back to 1886. This position is responsible for operating the Wheat Quality testing laboratory, accurately receiving inbound grain shipments, grading grain according to USDA GIPSA-FGIS standards, and documenting testing outcomes. The Grain Grader supports the company’s mission to consistently provide top-quality products and maintain rigorous food safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Adhere strictly to food safety protocols and personal safety regulations, including GMPs, OSHA, HACCP, Global Food Safety Initiative, the Food Safety Modernization Act, and company sanitation policies.
• Ensure the grading department and facility are consistently maintained in audit-ready condition.
• Deliver timely, courteous, and professional service to customers while addressing their inquiries and resolving issues.
• Operate grain grading and testing machinery safely and efficiently.
• Weigh, sample, and inspect grain shipments following established standards.
• Safely manage grain trucks and heavy hauling vehicles on site.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the testing and milling areas.
• Perform routine and emergency upkeep on equipment.
• Support Lead QA Technician with testing tasks as required.
• Temporarily cover duties of the Office Manager and Elevator Operator when absent.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Basic proficiency with hand tools necessary for the role.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office and internet applications.
• Strong communication skills for interactions with internal teams and external customers.
• Ability to organize, prioritize, and complete assignments efficiently and with quality.
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain an Ohio Agricultural Commodity Tester License.

Skills & Abilities

• Ability to read, understand, and write simple instructions and documentation.
• Basic math skills involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
• Good judgment and adaptability in decision-making and managing changing priorities.

Physical Requirements

• Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands for maintenance tasks, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, and communicate verbally.
• Occasional lifting or moving of items weighing 50 pounds or more.
• Must possess adequate vision acuity including close and distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Work Environment

• Fast-paced manufacturing environment exposed to moving equipment and machinery.
• Potential exposure to dust, varied temperature conditions, airborne particles, and wheat allergens.
• Noise levels typically require hearing protection.
• Willingness to work under all weather conditions and at heights.
