Gardener - Groundsperson

Position Overview

Become part of our Grounds team to manage and enhance the University campus's expansive 65 hectares of beautifully landscaped grounds. Your role will encompass maintaining gardens, trees, pathways, and open recreational spaces enjoyed by students and staff alike.

Role Responsibilities

• Maintain and develop 65 hectares of park-like university grounds including various garden collections, trees, and shrubs.
• Manage upkeep and maintenance of hard surfaces such as walkways and roads within the campus.
• Ensure all grounds are kept clean and free of litter to provide a welcoming environment suitable for both active and passive recreation.
• Operate and care for grounds maintenance equipment responsibly.
• Perform regular garden bed maintenance to uphold horticultural standards.

Candidate Profile

• Physical fitness with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Demonstrated and verifiable experience in amenity horticulture.
• Competence in handling and maintaining grounds machinery and tools.
• Experience specifically in garden bed upkeep.
• Hold a full New Zealand driver's license.
• A formal horticultural qualification is preferred but not essential if relevant practical experience is demonstrated.

About Us

The Property Services team oversees the management of the University's estate assets, including campus development, lease management, facilities, security, and support services such as grounds maintenance, portering, and cleaning. This role reports to the Grounds Supervisor and Landscape Manager within a small but dedicated grounds team responsible for the Hamilton campus.
