Freelance Video Editor – Remote Contract

Overview

We are seeking a freelance Video Editor experienced in documentary-style and commercial content, focusing on projects within political, advocacy, and branded sectors. The editor will handle 2 to 3-minute interview-centric videos, working from creative briefs, transcripts, and reference footage. Typical assignments involve editing 60 to 90 minutes of interview footage combined with b-roll and archival materials, resulting in clear, engaging stories. This role requires technical expertise with 4K cinema-camera footage and the ability to adapt edits for multiple formats including vertical videos suitable for social media platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Curate and arrange interview footage, b-roll, and archival content to construct compelling narratives
• Execute comprehensive picture edits ensuring clarity and audience engagement
• Perform color correction and grading on log footage to achieve a polished look
• Clean and balance audio tracks for consistency and clarity
• Select and integrate fitting music tracks
• Create simple motion graphics when necessary
• Provide final deliveries in required formats including vertical cuts for social media
• Maintain clear communication with stakeholders and respect project deadlines
• Comfortably handle content related to political and advocacy themes

Candidate Requirements

• Demonstrated experience in editing interview-led documentary and commercial videos
• Proficient in DaVinci Resolve; familiarity with Adobe Premiere is also acceptable
• Strong narrative skills with solid understanding of story structure
• Experience working with 4K media and cinema-quality footage
• Ability to perform professional color grading and audio mixing
• Basic skills in motion graphics creation
• Excellent communication abilities and adept time management
• Self-driven with capacity to meet stringent deadlines
• Comfortable producing content concerning political and advocacy subjects
• Willing and available for fast project turnarounds of 2 to 4 days
• Portfolio or samples of related work must be provided
