Role Overview
The First Officer on the Boeing 787 plays a vital role within the flight deck team by assisting the Captain in ensuring all flights operate safely, securely, and efficiently. The position demands high professional standards, technical expertise, effective team collaboration, and the ability to develop leadership skills for future command roles.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Captain in flight preparation, navigation, and operation while strictly observing Etihad’s protocols and aviation regulations.
- Conduct ongoing, independent verification of aircraft position, terrain, and meteorological conditions to maintain safe navigation.
- Provide clear advice and communication to the Captain to facilitate sound and efficient decision-making.
- Maintain discipline, professional behavior, and personal appearance representing the airline positively in all environments.
- Assume command if the Captain becomes incapacitated, in compliance with rank and company procedures.
Candidate Requirements
Applicants must fulfill either Criteria A or Criteria B, plus general eligibility requirements outlined below.
Criteria A
- At least 2,500 total flying hours.
- A minimum of 1,500 hours on multi-crew, glass cockpit aircraft (equipped with FMS and APFDS systems).
- At least 1,000 hours on any Boeing aircraft.
Criteria B
- At least 3,000 total flight hours.
- Minimum of 2,000 hours on Boeing wide-body aircraft.
General Eligibility
- Currently piloting a Boeing or have done so within the last 12 months.
- Valid Boeing type rating with at least 2 months remaining at joining.
- Holder of an unrestricted or frozen ATPL (CPL) issued by an ICAO member state.
- Possession of a current, unrestricted Class 1 medical certificate.
- Applicant must be younger than 50 years old on the date of joining.
- English proficiency at Level 4 or higher (both written and spoken).
Compensation and Benefits
The comprehensive tax-free package rewards performance while supporting life in Abu Dhabi. Annual remuneration can reach up to AED 513,732 (approximately USD 138,318) based on 75 flying hours monthly and includes a base salary, flight pay, housing allowance, and meal and layover allowances. Annual increments are performance-based.
