Job Overview

The role of Mechanic – Steam and Gas involves the safe installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of heavy rotating machinery predominantly used in power generation. This includes turbine mechanics working closely with supervisors, health and safety personnel, and operations teams to meet all operational goals.

Primary Responsibilities

• Interpret schematic drawings and technical documents to determine appropriate procedures.
• Disassemble and reassemble machinery and equipment using various hand, power, pneumatic, and hydraulic tools.
• Operate hoists, cranes, chain falls, and trucks to move machinery, parts, and equipment.
• Precisely align machinery using hoists, squares, micrometers, dial indicators, and laser alignment equipment following specialist guidance.
• Conduct machine and component inspections utilizing precision measuring devices such as micrometers, calipers, and rules.
• Manage control and accountability of tools, equipment, and supplies.
• Perform additional assigned duties as required.

Internal and External Interaction

• Collaborate with Outage Managers, Field Service Engineers, and Supervisors.
• Build cooperative relationships with plant crews and external contractors.

Qualifications and Experience

• Possession of a diploma in a technical field; Gas Turbine Systems Technician preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in maintenance, dismantling, and installation of machinery and service equipment including pumps, motors, fans, generators, and turbines.
• Experience in the use of specialized tooling.
• Strong understanding of the latest technologies and innovations in the field.
• Knowledge of relevant legal, quality, and health, safety, security, and environmental (HSSE) standards.
• Familiarity with power plant operations, maintenance practices, and equipment.
• Willingness to travel and work at international sites, including hardship locations and shift rotations.
