Job description
Job Overview
We are seeking an Electrical Technician to operate and maintain high voltage (HT) and low voltage (LT) electrical distribution systems within the Main Receiving Substation (MRSS). This role involves ensuring optimal functioning of transformers, switchgear, protection relays, and related equipment in an industrial setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage operation and upkeep of MRSS and HT/LT electrical distribution infrastructure.
- Monitor and service transformers, VCBs, ACBs, switchgear, busbars, isolators, and protection relay systems.
- Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on electrical equipment to maximize reliability.
- Operate and maintain substations at voltages including 11kV, 33kV, 66kV, and 132kV as applicable.
- Monitor power quality parameters such as power factor, load distribution, and energy consumption.
- Operate capacitor banks, diesel generator sets, battery chargers, UPS systems, and emergency power sources.
- Respond promptly to electrical faults and restore power quickly to minimize downtime.
- Conduct relay testing, assess insulation and earth resistance, and perform thermographic inspections.
- Maintain Motor Control Centers (MCC), Power Control Centers (PCC), HT/LT panels, motors, cabling, and control systems.
- Coordinate planned shutdowns and execute electrical isolations using Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures.
- Maintain detailed logbooks, equipment history files, and maintenance documentation.
- Ensure strict adherence to electrical safety standards, statutory regulations, and permit-to-work protocols.
- Liaise with electricity boards and utility providers during outages and maintenance operations.
- Support commissioning activities for new electrical equipment and plant expansions.
- Maintain and update electrical schematics, Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), and preventive maintenance programs.
Additional Information
The role demands close compliance with safety regulations and coordination with external utilities for uninterrupted power supply. Maintenance records and operational logs form critical components of job duties.
