Job Overview
The role of EHS Coordinator cum Environmental Control Officer involves supporting the execution, supervision, and continual enhancement of environmental, health, and safety (EHS) systems on site. You will ensure adherence to safety and environmental legislation, project specifications, and corporate EHS protocols through inspections, coordination, detailed record keeping, and effective on-site enforcement.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out daily safety and environmental inspections at the construction site to verify compliance with EHS standards and relevant regulations.
- Enforce safe working procedures, oversee the Permit-to-Work system, and ensure correct usage of personal protective equipment.
- Confirm all site activities are conducted following risk assessments and safe work procedures.
- Provide support to the EHS Officer and project team to implement control measures across the site.
- Collaborate with supervisors and subcontractors to guarantee safe and compliant operation of site processes.
- Assist in planning and supervising high-risk tasks including lifting operations, excavation, and traffic management.
- Organize toolbox meetings, provide safety and environmental briefings to workers and subcontractors to foster EHS awareness and safety culture.
- Maintain and update comprehensive EHS documentation such as Risk Assessments, Safe Work Procedures, inspection checklists, Permit-to-Work logs, environmental control records, incident and near-miss reports, and training records, ensuring readiness for audits.
- Monitor environmental control measures—dust, noise, vector, waste, earth control, drainage and silt management—to ensure their effectiveness and regulatory compliance with NEA, PUB, and project standards.
- Participate in incident and near-miss investigations and support root cause analysis and corrective actions implementation.
- Support various inspections and audits, including internal, client, authority, and CONSASS inspections, ensuring prompt closure of findings.
- Maintain communication with project teams, subcontractors, clients, and authorities regarding EHS topics and keep accurate records for audits and reports.
- Ensure the site maintains proper housekeeping standards at all times.
- Execute any additional EHS or environmental duties assigned by supervisors or management.
Qualifications & Skills
- Holder of Advanced Certificate in Workplace Safety and Health (Level B) or an equivalent qualification.
- Registered Environmental Control Officer with the National Environment Agency.
- Minimum NITEC qualification; an engineering background is preferred.
- Experienced in civil road construction projects.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and capability to work independently under dynamic site conditions.
- Competent in Microsoft Office and digital data collection tools like Google Forms.
- Possession of valid Class 3 driving licence is advantageous to facilitate site mobility.
